2019 Margretta Madden Styles Award:
Geraldine Collins-Bride, MS, RN, ANP-BC, FAAN.
Geraldine 'Gerri' Collins-Bride is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Community Health Systems (CHS). In 1995, she co-founded Primary Care Outreach for Persons with Mental Illness, a nursing faculty practice serving persons with severe mental illness and disability in San Francisco. Her collaboration with community partners and UCSF faculty from all schools led to this program becoming an interprofessional training site for UCSF students. As a clinician, she specializes in the care of adults with disabilities, and has been recognized nationally for her expertise in this area. As part of this work, she co-founded the California state-wide Interprofessional Telemedicine Assessment and Consultation Team (TACT). This practice provides expertise and disability-focused care for individuals living outside of major urban centers. For many years, Gerri has served as Vice Chair in CHS, providing guidance for nursing faculty practice. She has also been a leader in the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, mentoring future nurse practitioners and emerging faculty. Gerri is an exceptional example of STTI’s byline: global nursing excellence. She is an excellent nursing educator, clinician, and leader, demonstrating the values and virtues of Sigma: love, honor, and courage.

Alpha Eta Research and Leadership Endowment
Each year, Alpha Eta honors active chapter members with Research Awards and Leadership Development grants. In addition, our chapter annually funds a research grant for a Tau Lambda-at-Large (Sub-Saharan Africa) chapter member for a new research project. That means that Alpha Eta chapter awards about $19,000 per year for these awards. How extraordinary and how generous!
How do we have enough money to be so generous? In the past we have relied on monies generated by membership dues. But that will not be enough nor is it guaranteed for the future. So, in 2009 Alpha Eta embarked upon a campaign to create an Alpha Eta Nursing Research and Leadership Endowment. Our goal is to raise $400,000; a leadership gift of $100,000 launched the campaign.
I often recall the words of one of my most influential teachers, a patient with whom I worked for 10 years until her untimely death. To paraphrase her wise counsel: “It is not what we all must do everything, but we all can do something. Let me encourage you to do your small part. Believe me, the rewards are truly worthwhile.”
And so we challenge every Alpha Eta member to contribute something so that we can be proud that 100% of us are supporting the Alpha Eta Endowment campaign and the chapter’s amazingly creative members. Your commitment is vital to our success!
Thank you,
Pat Sparacino and Zina Mirsky
