Title of Project: Effect of Genetic Counselling on Genetic Testing Uptake among Secondary School Students in Ilesa-East Local Government Area
Grant Impact:
A student participant is able to influence his siblings (3 to 4people) his peers/ friends in the group of 4 or more. 410 students that will be involved in both pilot and main study will be influencing the choice of genetic testing for almost 4,000 people.
The 16 teachers will be impacting lives in their school for the average of 25 years or more that they will still be in government service. (The approved year of service for public servants is 35 years in Nigeria). This influence of the teacher in promoting knowledge of prevention of Sickle Cell disease and uptake of genetic testing can reduce the prevalence of the disease for the next generation.
